Suva
Porthtowan, Cornwall
Suva is a contemporary coastal home perched on the east cliffs of Porthtowan, designed to take full advantage of its dramatic setting. The house features an upside-down layout, with bedrooms, utility spaces, and a bathroom located on the ground floor, and an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living space situated above to maximise views.
At ground level, the building is clad in locally sourced Cornish stone, forming a solid base that anchors the home into the landscape. Above, the lighter timber-clad first floor sits gently atop the stone plinth, offering contrast in material and tone. Large glazed openings on the upper level provide framed views of Porthtowan beach and bathe the interiors in the golden evening light.
This home balances durability with refinement, combining robust natural materials and a thoughtful spatial arrangement to suit coastal living.
This project was designed by KAST Architects. I contributed to the design and produced the visualisation while working at the practice.
