Courtyard House

South Hams, Devon

This 220sqm L-shaped home is arranged around a secluded central courtyard, with one volume dedicated to living and the other to sleeping. A colonnade wraps around the internal perimeter, framing the home and enhancing seamless indoor-outdoor living, while also providing shade from the sun.

Upon entry, a tall hallway leads directly ahead to an open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, centred around a freestanding, dual aspect wood burner. Floor-to-ceiling windows and sliding doors offer framed views of the garden and surrounding landscape, while roof lights further help to flood the space with natural light. On the other side of the kitchen, a pantry and utility room provide additional storage and access to the outside.

Back at the entryway, access can be made to coat storage, a snug, a bathroom and the sleeping volume which accommodates two bedrooms, as well the primary bedroom, all of which open out into the garden with french doors. The primary bedroom also benefits from a walk-in wardrobe and ensuite bathroom.

Custom shelving, benches, and ample storage solutions are integrated throughout the home, whilst materials such as timber cladding, terracotta and ceramic tiles, and other natural materials add warmth and texture to the exterior and interior alike.
