Barton is a carefully considered renovation and extension of a 70m² bungalow in the Cornish village of Mylor Bridge. The project reimagines the original structure to offer bright, flexible spaces with an enhanced connection to its coastal setting.

A 52m² extension – including an integral garage – expands the home to accommodate contemporary family life. Clad in locally sourced vertical timber and finished with a standing seam zinc roof, the new addition complements the surrounding landscape with a modern yet natural character.

Internally, the former layout was opened up to form a spacious open-plan kitchen, dining, and living area, centred around a freestanding dual-aspect wood burner. Floor-to-ceiling glazing and generous sliding doors invite natural light deep into the home and frame uninterrupted views of Mylor Creek.

The existing footprint has been reconfigured to include a utility and one bedroom, while the extension adds two more bedrooms – including a primary bedroom – and a shared bathroom. The result is a warm, efficient, and well-detailed home that gently responds to its location and supports relaxed coastal living.
